Ecological Sticker for France - your solution for clean transportation

Introducing environmental badge (Plaquette Écologique) in France is one of the key steps in the fight for cleaner air and environmental protection. The system applies to vehicles traveling through so-called. low emission zones (ZFEs), introduced mainly in large cities. Read the information and see if your vehicle meets the requirements!

Types of Environmental Placards

An environmental badge is assigned to vehicles based on their emissions levels. This classifies each car into one of six categories:

Green – Electric vehicles.

Purple (Crit’Air 1) – Vehicles with gasoline or hybrid engines.

Yellow (Crit’Air 2) – Vehicles with diesel or gasoline engines meeting Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards (January 2011 to date).

Orange (Crit’Air 3) – Vehicles with diesel or gasoline engines that meet Euro 4 standards (January 2006 to December 2010).

Red (Crit’Air 4) – Older vehicles meeting Euro 3 standards (from January 2001 to December 2005).

Gray (Crit’Air 5) – Vehicles with the lowest environmental performance (January 1998 to December 2000).

Where to place the environmental badge?

To avoid fines and ensure compliance, the environmental badge should be placed in a designated area on the vehicle. See below for detailed instructions:

Required location:

Windshield, passenger side: Place the badge in the lower left corner so that it does not obstruct visibility or safety features.

Important Tips:

– Make sure the badge is clearly visible and does not obstruct the view from inside the vehicle.

– The placard must be placed on the windshield, not on other parts of the vehicle (such as mirrors or the bumper).

– Choose a durable sticker that won’t fall off while driving.

Fines for not having an environmental badge

Failure to display a mandatory environmental badge in low emission zones risks a fine. The amount of the fine depends on the region and the nature of the offense, but on average ranges from 68 to 135 euros (applies to passenger cars). In some cities, the control may be combined with additional restrictions, such as a ban on entering the zone.

Who must have an environmental badge?

The obligation to have environmental badge applies to all vehicles traveling in France, especially those entering low emission zones (ZFEs). The system mainly covers major cities, including:

1. Paris – The ZFE system covers the entire city.

2. Lyon – One of the major cities with regulations in place.

3. Marseille – Covered by a low emission zone.

4. Lille – Emission controls are in effect in the city.

5. Toulouse – The environmental sticker is mandatory.

6. Bordeaux – A city in the south of France with a badge requirement.

7. Nice – The city on the Côte d’Azur also requires the use of the ZFE system.

8. Strasbourg – Covered by a low emission zone.

9. Grenoble – A city in eastern France with an introduced low-emission zone.

10. Montpellier – Also requires an environmental badge.
